Regional Events Thank you to everyone who took part in the 75th Anniversary year regional festivities. Bennington's 75th Anniversary Regional Events in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston and New York drew record crowds of alumni and friends to celebrate the College's milestone year and learn about the extraordinary new curricular initiative. Many thanks to all attendees, and most especially to 75th Anniversary and regional host committee members for helping to make these events a reality. Events on Campus | Friday, May 30 | We look forward to welcoming family and friends of the Bennington Class of 2008 to campus May 30–31, 2008. Come enjoy a weekend of memorable activities celebrating the achievements of this year’s graduates! In addition to the conferring of degrees, Commencement Weekend will include a senior dance performance, a graduation concert, and a celebration dinner featuring the commencement addresses. Alumni Lecture Series In honor of the extraordinary accomplishments of our alumni body, during the 75th Anniversary year we invitedback alumni from across the decades and across disciplines and fields to share their work and experiences with our current students and faculty. | Thursday, September 27 | | 7:30 pm, Tishman Lecture Hall | | Odili Donald Odita MFA '90 is currently an associate professor of painting at the Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia. He has had numerous solo and group exhibitions both in the United States and around the world, including an installation at the 52nd Annual Venice Biennale. | | Thursday, October 4 | | 7:30 pm, Tishman Lecture Hall | | The paintings and drawings of Susan Crile '65 are widely noted by art critics and curators for their disturbing and evocative abstractions. Crile's work has been exhibited in numerous museums and galleries around the country, including the Phillips Collection and the Piper Gallery. She has been a faculty member at Hunter College since 1996 and her most recent work includes an exhibition entitled "Abu Graib: Abuse of Power." | | Tuesday, October 9 | 7:30 pm, Tishman Lecture Hall | | Alumnus and Chair of the Photography Department at the School of Visual Arts, Stephen Frailey '76 returns to campus to kick off this series. Frailey's work is included in the collections of Museum of Fine Art, Houston; the International Center for Photography, New York; and the Princeton University Art Museum. In 2003, he founded the Auction for Photographic Education in Afghanistan to create a photography department at Kabul University. | | Tuesday, October 16 | | 7:30 pm, Tishman Lecture Hall | | Perry Hoberman '77 will deliver a lecture as part of the Visual Arts Lecture Series. Hoberman is an installation artist who has exhibited widely throughout North America, Europe, and Asia. He is the recipient of the Prix Ars Electronica Award of Distinction and the Grand Prix from the ICC Biennale. Thomas is presently the Director of AW ASIA, a private office and exhibition space dedicated to the promotion and exhibition of Contemporary Chinese art. | | Thursday, November 8 | | 8:00 pm, Deane Carriage Barn | Joan Tower '61 will speak of her life and work with a question and answer session following. Hailed as "one of the most successful woman composers of all time," she is the recipient of the Grawemeyer Award in composition and a member of both the American Academy of Arts and Letters and the Academy of Arts and Sciences at Harvard University.

Along with his wife and partner Katherine Chia, they designed residential apartments and lofts, a recording studio, a Manhattan day spa, and a children's recreational center in San Diego. Their work has been featured in The New York Times, House Beautiful, New York Magazine, Interior Design, Elle Decor, Elle Decor Italia, and Elle Japan, and was rated by House Beautiful as one of the top 100 design firms. | | Tuesday, March 25 | | 7:30 pm, Tishman Lecture Hall | | Dan Cameron '79 is director of visual arts at the Contemporary Arts Center in New Orleans where he is currently organizing Prospect 1, a city-wide exhibition. For the last decade he was senior curator at the New Museum of Contemporary Art in New York. Cameron has organized exhibitions in Spain, Italy, Portugal, Greece, Russia, Austria, Sweden and Mexico. He was also the artistic director for the 8th Istanbul Biennial (2003) and was one of the curators of the Taipei Biennial in Taiwan (2006). He has written extensively on contemporary art in various publications, including Artforum, Arts Magazine and Parkett and has contributed to numerous museum catalogues, in addition to penning/editing several books. | | Thursday, March 27 | | 12:15 - 1:45 pm, Barn 240 | | Margot Hoerrner '91 is the vice president for outreach at Friends of the World Food Program, an organization established by the United Nations to engage the American public on the issue of global hunger. Hoerrner was also recently elected to serve as commissioner to Washington, D.C.’s, Advisory Neighborhood Commission, where she represents the interests and concerns of 2,000 residents and business owners in her district. For more information on Helen's work please visit her website. | | Saturday, April 5 | | 8:00 pm, Lester Martin Theater, VAPA | | Dick D. Zigun '75 presents the Coney Island Circus Sideshow. He holds an MFA from the Yale School of Drama and has received many NEA grants. Known to many as the Mayor of Coney Island, Zigun is an authority on amusement parks, American popular theater, and the history and tradition of the American sideshow. He has been the spokesman for Coney Island Amusement Park since 1980. The show consists of ten live acts and attractions. | | Monday, April 7 | | 8:00 pm, Deane Carriage Barn | | Liz Swados '73—renowned musician, director, and composer--has received five Tony Award nominations and three Obie Awards for her theatrical productions both on and off Broadway. Swados has composed, written and directed over 30 theater pieces including "The Trilogy," "Nightclub Cantata", "Runaways", "Alice in Concert," "Doonesbury" and "Rap Master Ronnie," "The Haggadah," "Jerusalem," and "The 49 Years," performed at numerous theaters on Broadway, Off-Broadway, and all over the world. | | Monday, April 14 | | 8:00 pm, Deane Carriage Barn | | An exhibit and sound installation trace the historic beginnings of electronic music in the U.S. to the Bennington campus. This is the opening for an ongoing exhibition. | | Wednesday, April 23 | | 8:00 pm, Deane Carriage Barn | | Michael Starobin ’79 is an orchestrator and arranger working on Broadway and in Hollywood. He has been the orchestrator for some of Broadway's most innovative musicals such as "Falsettos," "Sunday in the Park with George," "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" and "Assassins" (2004 Tony Award for Best Orchestrations). He was the conductor and orchestrator for Disney's "Hunchback of Notre Dame," and recently worked on to Disney's "Once Upon a Mattress" and the film version of "Chicago." | | |
